Teaser and Full Cast Revealed for London Revival of ‘Golden Boy’ Starring Josh O’Connor

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Sam Yates’ upcoming revival of Clifford Odets’ classic masterpiece Golden Boy has finalized its casting and unveiled its first official teaser ahead of its London premiere this September.
Josh O’Connor (The History of Pleasure), who leads the production as the titular protagonist Joe Bonaparte, is set to share the stage with a stellar ensemble of British talent. The newly announced cast features Jason Barnett (Bridgerton), Richard Fleeshman (Company), David Ganly (The Crown), Daniel Mays (Line of Duty), and Hayley Squires (All My Sons).
The production will run at London’s prestigious Almeida Theatre under the direction of Olivier Award winner Sam Yates, who recently helmed the critically acclaimed, one-man adaptation of Vanya starring Andrew Scott in both London and New York. Previews for Golden Boy are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with the official opening night set for September 15, running through October 31, 2026.
Synopsis
Set in 1930s New York during the height of the Great Depression, the narrative follows Joe Bonaparte, a fiercely talented young violinist with a promising future in classical music. However, the alluring promise of fast fame and immense fortune ultimately drags him into the brutal, cutthroat world of professional prize-fighting.
Pushed to the brink by a ruthless manager, torn by the temptation of a forbidden love, and weighed down by the deep expectations of his Italian-American immigrant family, Joe finds himself caught at a harrowing crossroads between the seductive American Dream and the dignity of an honest, quiet life. He is forced to confront what he is willing to sacrifice for success, the person he must become to achieve it, and how to find his place in a world that demands he choose only one path.
Broadway History and Context
While it remains unconfirmed whether this new staging will eyes a post-London transfer to Broadway, Golden Boy was last seen on the Great White Way in 2012, in a critically acclaimed Lincoln Center Theater revival directed by Bartlett Sher.
Nevertheless, the work of legendary playwright Clifford Odets will still have a major presence on Broadway this season. Manhattan Theatre Club is currently gearing up to present a highly anticipated revival of his iconic masterpiece, Awake and Sing!, slated to open this coming winter in January 2027.
