Taylor Sheridan’s Shocking Split From Paramount: Yellowstone Creator Signs 5-Year Deal With NBCUniversal

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone and its multiple spin-offs, is ending his collaboration with Paramount and has signed a new five-year deal with NBCUniversal.

As reported by Puck, the new agreement—which covers both film and television projects—will begin on January 1, 2029, following the expiration of Sheridan’s current deal with Paramount in 2028. David Glasser, Sheridan’s producing partner at 101 Studios, will also move to NBCUniversal alongside him.

Sheridan’s deal comes shortly after the merger between Skydance and Paramount Global, signaling intensifying competition among major studios to secure top creative talent. Since last August, Paramount has invested heavily in high-profile projects, including a four-year deal with Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers.

David Ellison, CEO of the newly merged Paramount Skydance, had previously praised Sheridan as “a one-of-a-kind genius with an extraordinary track record,” making his departure all the more surprising. The merger followed a series of executive shake-ups, including the exit of Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global’s CEO, who had worked closely with Sheridan. The previous leadership had reportedly granted Sheridan significant creative freedom, particularly in terms of budget and filming locations.

In addition to Yellowstone, Sheridan has created and produced Mayor of Kingstown, Landman, Lioness, and Tulsa King, as well as three Yellowstone spin-offs currently in development: Beth & Rip, The Madison, and Y: Marshals.
