“Stranger Things” Stars Reunite: Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour to Star in New Netflix and A24 Spy Series
According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Stranger Things’ most beloved father-daughter duo is set to return to the television screen. Netflix has officially greenlit a gripping spy thriller limited series starring Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour in the lead roles.
The untitled project, produced in collaboration with the acclaimed studio A24, is being developed by Jack Thorne, the creator and writer of the hit series The Teenage Years. Given that The Teenage Years and the fourth and fifth seasons of Stranger Things rank among the top four most-watched English-language series in Netflix history, this new collaboration is already one of the platform’s most highly anticipated projects.
A Thrilling Plot Based on a Spy Novel
The new series is inspired by Paul Warner’s debut novel, A Spy in the Blood. Beyond reuniting the Stranger Things stars, the project marks another collaboration between Millie Bobby Brown and Jack Thorne, who penned the Enola Holmes film franchise. The trailer for Enola Holmes 3 is scheduled for release on July 1.
According to the series synopsis, Matt Wolf (played by David Harbour) is an infamous former FBI agent now working as a security consultant. He is forced to return to the dark world of his past when his daughter, Rebecca (played by Millie Bobby Brown), who followed his footsteps into the FBI against his wishes, goes missing during a covert operation. Now, Matt must navigate a landscape where the rules and tools of espionage have evolved far beyond his past experience.
Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Vice President of Drama Series for the US and Canada, expressed her excitement for the project, stating:
“Jack Thorne’s ability to find deeply human layers within a high-stakes thriller is unparalleled. Watching Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour back together, this time as an estranged father and daughter on opposite sides of a crisis, is something audiences will absolutely love. A24 is the perfect partner to bring this story to life.”
A Deeper Bond Outside the World of “Stranger Things”
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast this week, Millie Bobby Brown praised David Harbour, saying, “Father-daughter dynamics are our specialty, and Netflix will always be our home. This project is getting off the ground sooner than expected, and the core idea actually belonged to David, so he gets all the credit.”
David Harbour also reflected on their close relationship in an interview with Variety, noting, “Ten years of working together across five seasons of Stranger Things wasn’t enough for us. There is a special bond between us; I love her, and she loves me.”
Although both actors have previously admitted to minor behind-the-scenes disagreements during the filming of Stranger Things, they appear to have entirely put any past friction behind them in recent months. The duo walked the red carpet together at the Season 5 premiere in November 2025, and Harbour attended Brown’s 22nd birthday celebration earlier this year.
A Busy Slate for the Stars and Creative Team
Jack Thorne has become one of the most sought-after writers in the UK. Following the global success of The Teenage Years, he has taken on the task of adapting Lord of the Flies for Netflix and is serving as a co-writer on Sam Mendes’s massive four-part Beatles film project.
Meanwhile, after wrapping up his iconic role as Jim Hopper (Eleven’s adoptive father) in the final season of Stranger Things, David Harbour recently completed filming on the HBO limited series DTF St. Louis. His upcoming high-profile slate includes Avengers: Doomsday (reprising his role as Red Guardian) and Violent Night 2. On the other hand, Millie Bobby Brown’s recent and upcoming portfolio includes the sci-fi features Damsel and The Electric State, and she is set to star in and produce the upcoming romantic film Just Imagine.
