Release of Mortal Kombat II delayed until mid-2026

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the release of Mortal Kombat 2, directed by Simon McQuoid, has been postponed to spring 2026. The film was originally set to premiere less than two months from now, on October 24, but Warner Bros. and New Line have announced that it will instead open on May 15, 2026, to avoid October’s crowded release schedule. Warner hopes to replicate the success of Final Destination: Bloodlines with the new date.
Production on the film began in Australia before the Hollywood actors’ strike and wrapped in February 2024. The official trailer for Mortal Kombat 2 was released just over a month ago.
In the sequel, former MMA fighter Cole Young (played by Lewis Tan), after unleashing a bloodbath alongside Hanzo Hasashi—better known as Scorpion—travels to Los Angeles in search of a new ally: Johnny Cage.
Karl Urban stars as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Hong Kong actress and model Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, and Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel.
The first Mortal Kombat introduced Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, and Lewis Tan as Cole Young.
Mortal Kombat 2 will now be released on May 15, 2026.
