Noah Baumbach to Create His First TV Series for A24: Hope

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Noah Baumbach, director of Marriage Story and Jay Kelly, is making his first television series, Hope, for studio A24. This project marks Baumbach’s first-ever TV series.

In 2021, Baumbach signed a multi-year deal with Netflix, but it now appears that after three projects he has shifted to A24. The New Yorker has reported that his first project with the studio will be a television adaptation of the 2018 novel Hope by Andrew Ridker.

Set in 2008, Hope follows a wealthy Jewish family in the Boston suburbs whose foundation begins to crumble after a social scandal. Ridker’s novel tells the story of a doctor named Scott Greenspan, his wife Deb who helps resettle refugees, their daughter Maya who works at a publishing house, and their son Gideon who is preparing to follow in his father’s footsteps.

In recent years, A24 has increasingly turned toward television production, with credits including HBO’s Euphoria and The Sympathizer, as well as Netflix’s Beef. The broadcaster for Baumbach’s series has not yet been announced.

Baumbach will soon premiere Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney and Laura Dern, at the Venice Film Festival. He also co-wrote Barbie with his wife Greta Gerwig, and previously directed White Noise.
