Michael Keaton Responds to Charlie Kirk’s Killing: “Shooting People Solves Nothing”

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Michael Keaton has spoken out about the killing of Charlie Kirk during a speech, calling the incident marked by a “dark irony.” The Birdman actor, speaking Monday night at an exhibition on gun violence in America, criticized the culture of firearms and stressed that shooting another human being will never be an answer.

At the start of his remarks, Keaton referenced Kirk’s wife and two children, saying: “You’ve got to remember. Because in the end, shooting another human being is not an answer to anything, and the bitter irony of him being killed by a gun is just unbelievable.”

Scott Pelley, one of the anchors of CBS’s 60 Minutes, was also among the speakers at the event. He said: “Charlie Kirk was murdered so his voice would not be heard, just as three months ago Melissa Hartman and her husband Mark, the Minnesota House Speaker, were murdered so their voices would not be heard. Many admired Kirk, and many did not. His catchphrase was, ‘Prove me wrong.’ For some, that was provocative—even insulting. But its core idea was: make your case, and let’s debate.”

Ava Raine, daughter of Dwayne Johnson, was another celebrity to comment on Kirk’s killing, though she faced backlash on X. The 24-year-old wrestler responded to a post that read: “If you want people to speak kindly about you after you die, you should speak kindly when you’re alive,” writing: “And I stand by that. Be kind, now more than ever.”

Her post sparked widespread reactions, with some urging her to “do better.” One user on X asked: “You think defending that stance is kind?” Another wrote: “You’re disrespecting the dead yourself.”

Chris Pratt, star of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, faced similar criticism. Following Kirk’s death, he posted on X: “Praying for Charlie Kirk, his wife, his two young children, and for our country. We need God’s forgiveness. God help us.” One X user replied: “I’m praying you get fired from Marvel.”
