Lulu Wang to Direct Audition with Lucy Liu and Charles Melton

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Lulu Wang will direct the adaptation of Katie Kitamura’s novel Audition. Lucy Liu and Charles Melton will star in the film, written by Wang herself. Barack Obama’s Higher Ground Productions is collaborating with Laika Studios on the project.
The film will be one of Laika’s first live-action projects, as the studio is best known for stop-motion animated films such as Coraline.
Kitamura’s novel follows a famous actress whose glamorous New York life is shaken by the arrival of a young man who claims to be her long-lost son.
Liu’s filmography includes Kill Bill and Charlie’s Angels, which together grossed more than $3.7 billion worldwide. She recently premiered Rosemead at the Telluride Film Festival and received the “Facing Challenge Award” at the Bentonville Film Festival.
Melton, best known for his role as Reggie in The CW’s Riverdale, starred opposite Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman in May December two years ago, earning a Golden Globe nomination. He recently appeared in Warfare, directed by Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza, and has completed filming the second season of Netflix’s Beef.
