Kpop Demon Hunters Breaks Record: The Most-Watched Film in Netflix History

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Kpop Demon Hunters has become the most-watched original film in Netflix history. The movie, which tells the story of a group of K-pop girls battling monsters, surpassed the record of Red Notice—starring Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson, and Gal Gadot—with 236 million viewers, overtaking its 230.9 million audience to claim the number one spot among Netflix’s most popular films ever.

Other top-viewed Netflix films include Carry-On starring Taron Egerton, Don’t Look Up starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, and The Adam Project starring Ryan Reynolds.

Last weekend, Kpop Demon Hunters grossed between $18 to $20 million in just two days of release, becoming the first Netflix film in history to hit number one at the North American box office. The film was also last week’s most-watched movie title, with 25.4 million viewers.

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, Kpop Demon Hunters was recorded in English but is set in Seoul, following three K-pop singers who use the power of their hit songs to fight demons. Arden Cho, Mi Hong, and Ji-young Yoo voice the characters Romi, Mira, and Zoe.

Sony and Netflix are now in negotiations to produce a sequel to Kpop Demon Hunters.
