Kim Novak Expresses “Concern” Over Biopic Starring Sydney Sweeney: “Trump Is Beyond a Bully”

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, legendary Hollywood actress Kim Novak told The Guardian in a recent interview that she feels “concerned” about her upcoming biopic, starring Sydney Sweeney, particularly its portrayal of her highly publicized relationship with Sammy Davis Jr. Earlier reports revealed the film’s title will be Scandalous.
Novak said: “I don’t think that relationship was scandalous. I truly loved him. We had so much in common, including the need to be accepted for who we really were and for what we did, not for how we appeared. But I worry they’ll claim it was only about sex.”
The Vertigo star and Davis, a member of the Rat Pack, first met while both were at the height of their fame on The Steve Allen Show. Their romance infuriated Harry Cohn, head of Columbia Pictures, which had Novak under contract. In early 1958, when a Chicago newspaper reported details of their relationship and their plans to marry, it caused an uproar in Hollywood. The pair denied the affair, and nine days later Davis married an African-American woman named Loray White.
Actor David Jonsson (Industry) will play Sammy Davis Jr. in Scandalous, directed by Colman Domingo.
Currently in Venice to receive an honorary Golden Lion, Novak also recalled Donald Trump’s comments on her appearance at the 2014 Oscars. At the time, she had plumped her cheeks and faced harsh criticism. Trump, who has recently reacted with delight to revelations about Sydney Sweeney’s Republican views, joined the online backlash on Twitter, saying Novak should sue her plastic surgeon.
Novak reflected: “I’ve always had a strong feeling about bullies. What I feel about the president has nothing to do with what he said about me at the Oscars. I didn’t like his comment—those are the kinds of things I object to bullies for. But he’s gone far beyond being just a bully since then. Even though I endured what he said and didn’t react, I won’t tolerate him telling me—or anyone else—what to do.”
