Jonathan Bailey Named PEOPLE Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2025

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Jonathan Bailey has been named PEOPLE magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2025. The announcement was made Monday night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. This marks the 40th year that PEOPLE has selected its “Sexiest Man Alive,” and for the first time, the title has gone to an openly gay actor.

In an interview with Fallon, Bailey joked:

“Jimmy, I’m so grateful you turned down the offer so I could be here instead.”

The 37-year-old British actor explained that he first learned about the honor earlier this year while performing in William Shakespeare’s Richard II:

“Honestly, it felt even crazier than Richard II.”

When Fallon asked if he thought people would treat him differently after receiving the title, Bailey laughed and replied:

“I certainly hope so.”

Bailey rose to fame in 2020 for his role as Lord Anthony Bridgerton in Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton. He recently appeared as Prince Fiyero in the musical film Wicked and as Dr. Henry Loomis in Jurassic World: Rebirth.

Mel Gibson was the first to hold the Sexiest Man Alive title in PEOPLE’s special 1985 issue. Last year’s honoree was John Krasinski, director of A Quiet Place, while previous winners include Patrick Dempsey, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, and John Legend.
