Jennifer Connelly and Ana de Armas in Safe Houses, from the Writer of Homeland

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, Jennifer Connelly and Ana de Armas are in talks to join Apple International’s new spy series Safe Houses. Gideon Raff, known for Homeland, will serve as the series’ writer, executive producer, and showrunner. De Armas will make her first American television series appearance through this project after signing with the WME agency.
The eight-episode series is based on a novel by Dan Fesperman and follows the aftermath of the murder of a high-ranking CIA official in Madrid. Sophia Jiménez, played by de Armas, a fugitive agent, and Ambassador Elizabeth Winthrop, played by Connelly, each investigate the killing from their own perspectives and uncover a vast conspiracy that could disrupt the global balance of power. Fesperman, in addition to this 2018 novel, has drawn inspiration from twelve other books about real-world missions around the globe.
Safe Houses will be a co-production between the independent global studio WIP and Apple. Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) will direct the series’ first episode, while Raff will direct several other episodes and serve as executive producer alongside Alexandra Milchan.
De Armas was recently seen in Lionsgate’s Ballerina, a spin-off of John Wick, and has just joined the film Sweat. Connelly returns to Apple TV after the series Dark Matter. Four years ago, she appeared in Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
