James Ransone, Actor of Sinister and The Wire, Dies

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, James Ransone, the actor known for IT Chapter Two and the series The Wire, has died at the age of 46. According to the medical examiner’s report, the Spirit Award–winning actor died by suicide last Friday in Los Angeles.

Ransone was born on June 2, 1979, in Baltimore. After studying at an arts high school, he appeared in films such as Larry Clark’s Ken Park (2002), John Waters’ A Dirty Shame (2004), and Spike Lee’s Inside Man (2006).
He was best known for playing Eddie Kaspbrak in IT Chapter Two and for his roles in Sinister, Sinister 2, and more recently The Black Phone. His filmography also included Prom Night (2008), Starlet (2012), Red Hook Summer (2012), Oldboy (2013), Sean Baker’s Tangerine (2015), Mr. Right (2015), and V/H/S/85 (2023).
On television, Ransone was widely recognized for his role in the second season of HBO’s The Wire. He also appeared in episodes of CSI, Law & Order, Hawaii Five-0, Bosch, Poker Face, and many other series.
