Highlander Reboot Halted Until 2026 Following Henry Cavill Injury

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Henry Cavill has been injured during the filming of the Highlander reboot, forcing production to shut down for several months. The film also stars Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Russell Crowe.

It was previously reported that Chad Stahelski, best known for the John Wick franchise, is directing the action-fantasy film, with a screenplay by Michael Finch based on the 1980s cult classic.

Cavill has several projects currently in post-production, including Rawson Marshall Thurber’s Voltron, Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey, and Enola Holmes 3. In recent years, he has also appeared in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Argylle, and cameo scenes in Deadpool & Wolverine.

In the original Highlander, Christopher Lambert played the immortal warrior Connor MacLeod, while Sean Connery portrayed the swordsman Ramirez, who pursued him in a quest for greater power. In the reboot, Cavill and Crowe will take on the roles of MacLeod and Ramirez. Marisa Abela has been cast in another key role. Dave Bautista will play the immortal barbarian Kurgan, who has hunted and killed other immortals over the centuries—a role originally played by Clancy Brown. Karen Gillan will portray Heather, MacLeod’s mortal wife.

Production is now expected to resume in 2026.
