Gigi Hadid auditioned for the canceled Tangled film

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Gigi Hadid revealed in a new interview with Vogue that she auditioned for the role of Rapunzel in the live-action adaptation of Tangled. The Palestinian-American supermodel disclosed in a conversation with Kendall Jenner that she came close to landing the role.

Hadid said: “I’m really proud of the scene I performed.” She added that she took singing lessons for the role: “I knew they would choose a real singer.”

The Hollywood Reporter revealed last spring that Disney had shut down the project several years into development, despite the involvement of Michael Gracey, director of The Greatest Showman, and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, writer of Thor: Love and Thunder.

Disney’s struggles with Snow White and the many controversies surrounding it also played a part in the cancellation of the live-action Tangled. Instead, the studio decided to focus on the “safer” live-action Moana, starring Dwayne Johnson, which is currently slated for release in the summer of 2026.

Alongside Hadid, Corey Mylchreest, star of My Oxford Year, also auditioned for the role of Flynn Rider in Tangled.
