George R. R. Martin Finally Explains the Long Delay of The Winds of Winter

According to CINEMADRAME News Agency, readers have been waiting fourteen years for George R. R. Martin’s The Winds of Winter, and one question that has remained unanswered for many fans is why he has not yet finished the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
In a recent interview, Martin appears to provide an answer, explaining that he needs to isolate himself in a special environment to write. Speaking to January Magazine, he said: “I need my own space. I need my office and my own setup. I’ve tried. Sometimes I would take a laptop, or in the old days, a notebook or something like that. But I really can’t write except in my own space, inside my office, where I can truly immerse myself in the world I’m creating, not the world around me.”
At 77, Martin has to travel frequently, keeping him away from this environment. He has recently appeared at New York Comic Con, WorldCon in Seattle, and Bubonicon in Albuquerque, making it rare for him to be alone in his office.
Martin directly supervises and contributes as a producer and writer to the series House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and he will also be involved in other projects, including the stage production The Iron Throne.
He previously told Entertainment Weekly that completing the A Song of Ice and Fire series still excites him: “But honestly, I also enjoy other things.” In August, he told The Hollywood Reporter that he was not only not working on The Winds of Winter but had turned to another story in the Dunk and Egg universe. In other interviews, he emphasized that he still prioritizes The Winds of Winter over his Hollywood projects.
More than six years have passed since the final season of Game of Thrones aired, but Martin says the ending of the books will differ from the series.
