Francis Ford Coppola to present the Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion to Werner Herzog

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Francis Ford Coppola will present the honorary Golden Lion to Werner Herzog this Wednesday night at the Venice Film Festival. The director of The Godfather and Apocalypse Now will travel to Venice on August 27 (5 Shahrivar 1404) to bestow the award on the German filmmaker during the opening ceremony of the festival’s 82nd edition.

The director of Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre, the Wrath of God will, after receiving the award, unveil his latest documentary Ghost Elephants in the festival’s “Out of Competition” section and also participate in a masterclass.

Coppola will also be represented this year with Megadoc, a documentary by Mike Figgis screening in the “Venice Classics” section. The film takes a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Coppola’s epic Megalopolis, which premiered last year at the Cannes Film Festival. Coppola had previously received Venice’s honorary Golden Lion in 1992.
