First Trailer for Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the first trailer for Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind was unveiled this Thursday. Starring Josh O’Connor and Alana Haim, the film premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival, where MUBI acquired U.S. distribution rights.
In the film, O’Connor plays J.B. Mooney, a Massachusetts carpenter in the 1970s who turns into an art thief. As he plans his first major heist, his scheme begins to unravel and his life spirals out of control. The cast also includes John Magaro, Hope Davis, Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann, Amanda Plummer, Cole Doman, Eli Gelb, Matthew Maher, and Rhenzy Feliz.
The Mastermind is Reichardt’s second film to be distributed by MUBI after First Cow. In addition to this project, O’Connor also appeared at Cannes with History of Sound, while his upcoming film Wake Up Dead Man, directed by Rian Johnson, will soon be released on Netflix. Haim, meanwhile, stars in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, currently playing in theaters.
The Mastermind is set to screen at the New York Film Festival before its U.S. theatrical release on October 17.
