First Teaser for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Look Back Released

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the first teaser for the live-action adaptation of the manga Look Back, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, has been unveiled. The film is scheduled for release in late 2026.
The story follows two students, Ayumu Fujino and Kyomoto, whose shared love of manga brings them closer together as they gradually enter the realm of adulthood.
Look Back, written by Tatsuki Fujimoto, was first published in 2021 and received 2.5 million views on Shonen Jump on its first day. The manga has been released in 37 countries and has sold 900,000 copies in Japan. An animated film adaptation was produced in 2024, directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama at Studio Durian. That film grossed $12.8 million at the box office and was released on Prime Video.
Kore-eda previously said about the project: “After returning from a trip from Kyoto to Tokyo, I was captivated by the image on the cover of a book at a bookstore in Shinagawa Station. Without hesitation, I picked up a copy — that was my first encounter with Look Back. I read the book in one sitting that night. Although manga and cinema are different genres, as a creator of artistic work I felt the unavoidable determination behind this piece. I could sense, almost painfully, that Mr. Fujimoto could not go on without creating this work. To me, Nobody Knows is such a work.”
Kore-eda, who won the Palme d’Or in 2018 for Shoplifters, filmed Look Back in Nikaho City, Japan.
