First Episode of It: Welcome to Derry Becomes Third Most-Watched Premiere in HBO Max History

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the first episode of It: Welcome to Derry attracted 5.7 million viewers on HBO Max during its first three days, making it the platform’s third most-watched premiere episode, following House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. The series serves as a prequel to the It film, with Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as the terrifying clown Pennywise.

In Welcome to Derry, when children begin disappearing in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of kids confronts their greatest fears to face the murderous clown Pennywise. The story is set in the 1960s and leads up to the events of the original It film. Other cast members include Taylor Paige, Giovanni Adepo, Steven Ryder, Chris Chalk, and James Remar.

Mark Ruffalo’s series Task set a previous record of 3.1 million viewers just one month ago. The second episode of Welcome to Derry will be released early in time for Halloween, with new episodes continuing to air until December 14.
