Filming for Wonka 2 to Begin in Early 2026

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, production on “Wonka 2” is set to begin on January 5, 2026 in Los Angeles, as reported by Production List.
At the end of the first film (Wonka), Willy Wonka, played by Timothée Chalamet, finally opened his chocolate shop to share his creations with the world. The sequel is described as a musical film exploring Wonka’s backstory in mid-19th century England.
Wonka 2 will be a new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” focusing on the early life of Willy Wonka during the Industrial Revolution in England.
Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to release an untitled family sequel on December 17, 2027, which is widely believed to be Wonka 2.
Last year, Wonka director Paul King confirmed in an interview with HeyUGuys that the sequel was in development and the script was already underway. He said:
“About half of the draft is done. We’re happy with the story and we know how we want to shape the next stage of Wonka’s journey.”
The first Wonka premiered on December 15, 2023, receiving a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.9/10 on IMDb, grossing over $634 million worldwide against a $125 million budget. The film, written and directed by Paul King, also starred Hugh Grant, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, and Paterson Joseph.
