Documentary Melania Becomes One of the 3 Lowest-Rated Films in IMDb History

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, the documentary Melania exceeded expectations during its opening week in U.S. cinemas, earning $7 million. However, Amazon MGM reportedly spent $40 million to acquire the distribution rights and an additional $35 million on marketing, meaning it cannot exactly be called a commercial “success.” The film’s critics score on Rotten Tomatoes is also dismal at 6%, although its audience score on the same platform reaches 99%.
On IMDb, the situation is even worse: among more than 730,000 registered films, Melania sits near the very bottom. Its current IMDb rating is 1.3 out of 10, with only two other films in history scoring lower. About 48 hours earlier, it had dropped to 1.1 before slightly recovering.
Among the list of the ten lowest-rated films in IMDb history, Melania is by far the most expensive. While there is no evidence that IMDb voters actually watched the film, reviews suggest that perhaps Brett Ratner did not make a high-quality movie despite accusations of sexual misconduct.
In its first week in the U.K., Melania ranked 29th, earning £32,900 across 155 cinemas—about £212.8 per screen. This disastrous performance is notable given that documentaries typically open in only around 25 cinemas. The Guardian reports that the documentary Prime Minister recently earned $33,000 across 28 cinemas.
