Colin Farrell: I Drove Tom Cruise Mad with Endless Minority Report Takes; The Batman Part II Script Is a Masterpiece

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Colin Farrell admitted in a recent interview with Stephen Colbert that he made over 40 mistakes delivering one of his lines in Minority Report, angering his co-star Tom Cruise.

Farrell recalled being thrilled to work with Cruise in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi film, as he had grown up watching both of their work. But on May 31, 2002, after celebrating his 25th birthday the night before, he arrived on set in poor shape and struggled to say the line: “I’m sure you all understand the fundamental paradox of pre-crime methodology.” He added, “It took 46 takes. Tom wasn’t very happy with me.”

The actor had asked the production not to schedule filming on his birthday, but they refused. After staying up late that night, he failed to arrive on set in proper condition the next morning: “All the saints we turn to for answers on how to live will tell you that all that matters is presence of mind.”

Three years later, Farrell entered rehab for alcohol and substance addiction for the first time. In a 2024 interview with the Daily Mail, he said his son’s diagnosis with Angelman syndrome had motivated him to seek sobriety.

In another interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Farrell praised Matt Reeves’ screenplay for The Batman Part II, calling it a “masterpiece.” He is set to reprise his role as The Penguin opposite Robert Pattinson in the sequel.

Farrell said: “I’ve shared a lot of thoughts with Matt about the script. I truly think it’s a masterpiece — a contemporary masterpiece of the genre. It’s brilliant, and Robert goes on a beautiful journey that the audience will follow. It’s rich, intelligent, very deep and detailed. I’m talking too much, but I think it’s going to be an extraordinary film.”

In a separate interview with ComicBook, he revealed that the story of The Batman Part II takes place a few weeks after the events of the final episode of The Penguin series.

The Batman Part II is scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
