Bob Odenkirk’s Normal to Break Records with 2,000-Theater Release

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Magnolia Pictures has announced that Normal, directed by Ben Wheatley and starring Bob Odenkirk, will hit U.S. theaters on April 17, 2026. The film will open in 2,000 theaters, marking the widest release in Magnolia Pictures’ 24-year history.
Normal follows a man named Ulysses, played by Odenkirk, who temporarily takes over as sheriff of a small town after the sudden death of its former lawman. When the town’s bank is robbed by two strangers, Ulysses steps in and soon uncovers dark secrets hidden beneath the town’s surface. Henry Winkler co-stars as the town’s mayor, while Lena Headey plays a bartender named Moira.
Ben Wheatley, known for Meg 2: The Trench, directs the film, while Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick, penned the screenplay. Odenkirk and Kolstad recently collaborated on Nobody 2. The Nobody films have grossed nearly $100 million worldwide.
The previous record for Magnolia Pictures’ widest release belonged to Thelma, which opened in June 2024 across 1,290 theaters, earning over $2 million in its first weekend and $9 million domestically by the end of its run.
