According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Amazon Prime Video’s live-action series Blade Runner 2099 has been confirmed for release in 2026. Laura Lancaster, head of U.S. series at Amazon Studios, announced that the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 will arrive four years after it was first greenlit. Production was delayed two years due to the Hollywood strikes, but the series is now in post-production and expected to be ready for release in late 2025 or early 2026.
The cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Hunter Schafer, Dimitri Abold (The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Louis Gribben (Somewhere Boy), Caolán Rose Downey (The Nun II), Daniel Rigby (Renegade Nell), Johnny Harris (A Gentleman in Moscow), Amy Lennox (Only Child), Sheila Atim (The Woman King), and Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon).
The series is written by Silka Luisa, known for Shining Girls starring Elisabeth Moss, and produced in collaboration with Ridley Scott and Scott Free Productions. Jonathan van Tulleken, who recently directed two episodes of FX’s Shōgun, will direct episodes of Blade Runner 2099 and also serve as an executive producer.
