Amityville Horror to Be Remade for the Third Time by Shazam! Director
According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Amazon MGM Studios is developing a new version of The Amityville Horror with David F. Sandberg attached to direct. The Wrap reports that the filmmaker behind Shazam! and Until Dawn has joined the project.
Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, who previously worked on The Conjuring: Last Rites, are writing the screenplay for this remake. Last Rites grossed nearly $200 million worldwide and performed beyond expectations.
The first Amityville Horror, based on Jay Anson’s bestselling book, was released in 1979. Another remake followed in 2005, starring Ryan Reynolds and Chloë Grace Moretz. The story centers on a family that moves into an apparently perfect house with a horrifying past.
Since the original 1979 release, multiple sequels to The Amityville Horror have been produced.
