Amazon Greenlights Live-Action Life Is Strange Series

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Amazon Prime Video has officially greenlit a live-action adaptation of Life Is Strange. The series is based on the bestselling video game of the same name and will be written and produced by Charlie Covell. Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg will also serve as producers through their company Story Kitchen.

The video game’s story follows a photography student named Max who discovers she has the ability to rewind time in order to save the life of her childhood friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand her newfound power, she investigates the mysterious disappearance of one of her classmates and uncovers the dark secrets of her town.

The first installment of Life Is Strange was released in 2015 to positive reviews. A prequel titled Life Is Strange: Before the Storm followed in 2017. Six years later, it was reported that the franchise had amassed more than 20 million players. Additional titles such as The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit and Life Is Strange 2, which introduced new characters, were released in 2018. In 2021, Life Is Strange: True Colors debuted, followed by Life Is Strange: Double Exposure.

A television adaptation of Life Is Strange has been in development for nearly a decade. Legendary Pictures was once attached to the project, but this marks the first time a network has officially given it the green light.

Covell is best known for the Netflix series The End of the F**ing World* and more recently for Kaos, also at Netflix.

Amazon is also developing television adaptations of other video games, including Wolfenstein, Mass Effect, God of War, and Warhammer 40,000, the latter starring Henry Cavill.
