First Teaser Released for Danny Boyle’s New Film “Ink”; Jack O’Connell and Guy Pearce Shine at Venice Film Festival Opening
According to CinemaDrame News Agency, the official first trailer has been released for Danny Boyle’s new film, Ink, which opened the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on September 2nd.
Danny Boyle directed the feature from a screenplay written by James Graham (writer of Dear England), adapted from Graham’s own Tony Award-nominated play of the same name. The film stars Jack O’Connell as Larry Lamb, the editor of The Sun newspaper, and Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch. Claire Foy also stars in the role of Jules Davis.
In addition to directing, Boyle serves as a producer alongside Tessa Ross (producer of The Crow) and Michael Ellenberg (producer of The Morning Show). Ink marks a reunion for Danny Boyle and Tessa Ross following the success of Slumdog Millionaire. Tracey Seaward (producer of The Two Popes) is also producing. Executive producers on the project include Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Joe Naftalin, Tonia Davis, Zoe Edwards, James Graham, and Sudie Smyth.
When introducing the film, Venice Film Festival Director Alberto Barbera described it as: “The story of the acquisition of the Daily Sun newspaper by prominent publisher Rupert Murdoch, who handed its management to the bold and fearless Larry Lamb—the man who transformed the publication into Britain’s best-selling tabloid and overtook its long-time rival, the Daily Mirror.”
The project was fully financed by StudioCanal, which is handling its theatrical release in Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland, the Benelux region (Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg), Australia, and New Zealand.
On the technical and creative side, Alwin H. Küchler (Steve Jobs) served as director of photography. Gareth Pugh and Carson McColl (28 Years Later) handled production and costume design. The film was edited by Fin Oates (How to Have Sex, Warfare), with casting by Gail Stevens and Rebecca Farhall (28 Years Later). The original score was composed by Daniel Pemberton.
Netflix will release the film in U.S. theaters on December 11 before streaming it on its platform on January 8. StudioCanal will simultaneously release the film in UK theaters on January 8.
