Amazon MGM searches for new James Bond; “We are proceeding with care and great respect”

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, it appears that James Bond will return to the big screen—though not anytime soon. Amazon MGM Studios has recently released only limited information about the next 007 film. The studio, which has recently taken full creative control of the spy franchise, has selected Denis Villeneuve to direct the upcoming installment. Given his success with the Dune series, the decision has been widely welcomed. The choice of Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight to write the screenplay has also received praise.

Villeneuve, along with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, now faces the next major challenge: finding the right actor to step into Bond’s tuxedo. However, Amazon MGM executives did not reveal any potential candidates for the role of the British secret agent during their presentation of upcoming plans at CinemaCon.

Courtney Valenti, the studio’s head of film, said: “I know you’re all waiting for the announcement of the new James Bond, but don’t get too excited. We are approaching this with care and deep respect. Building the next chapter of this story is a great ambition for us, and a responsibility we do not take lightly.”

She added: “When you combine one of the most beloved franchises in history with a world-class team of filmmakers—including acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve, powerhouse producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe, and screenwriter Steven Knight—you create the conditions for a film worthy of Bond’s legacy. The film is on its way, and we will share more information in due time.”

Meanwhile, speculation about the next Bond actor continues to intensify, with names such as Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, and Louis Partridge being mentioned as possible candidates. Whoever takes on the role will face a difficult task, as Daniel Craig is regarded as one of the greatest actors to portray the character, alongside Sean Connery. He brought the franchise to both critical and commercial heights across five films, including Skyfall and Casino Royale. However, he bid farewell to the role forever in 2021 with No Time to Die.

Amazon hopes that the 26th Bond film will become a major box office success. In fact, acquiring control of the franchise was one of the key reasons behind the company’s $8 billion purchase of MGM in 2022. Compared to previous installments, Villeneuve is expected to deliver a film on the level of Goldfinger, rather than “a glimpse of a murder.”
