John Oliver Mocks Trump for Avoiding the Word “War” in U.S. Military Operation in Iran: “He Really Talks Like a Six-Year-Old”

According to the CinemaDrame News Agency, HBO’s Last Week Tonight host John Oliver compared Trump’s statements to a child “expressing the stream of their thoughts to a stranger.”

On Sunday night’s episode of Last Week Tonight, Oliver began by mocking President Trump for explaining why he avoided using the word “war” during the U.S. military operation in Iran.

Oliver said, “The Iran war has entered its second month, but Trump is trying to avoid using the word ‘war’ for reasons he probably shouldn’t say out loud,” before showing a clip of Trump explaining why he refrains from using the term.

Trump said, “I don’t use the word ‘war’ because they say if you use the word war, it might not be a good thing. They don’t like the word war because permission has to be obtained, so I use the phrase ‘military operation,’ which is really what it is.”

Oliver then added, “What? He really talks like a six-year-old sharing the stream of his thoughts with a stranger: ‘And my mom says I’m not allowed to talk about my genitals with others, even though everyone else does, except not her or my sister, but my dad and I both do, but I can’t say it when there are a lot of people around, though everyone knows because they have them too, unless they don’t, but I do.’”

Oliver emphasized that regardless of the word used to describe the conflict, “everything has been chaotic.” He reviewed recent developments, including Trump’s threat to attack Iran’s power grid if the Strait of Hormuz remained closed, and his social media post stating, “I’ll start with the biggest power plant.” Oliver noted, “If this were a war, it would count as a war crime—but fortunately, we now know it isn’t.”

Oliver continued that Trump then said the attacks would be delayed following productive negotiations with Iran, which Iran has denied even took place. Trump later extended the deadline to April 6, even as Iran attacks U.S. bases and allies. Oliver reminded viewers that so far 2,000 Iranians and 13 U.S. personnel have been killed, while reports indicate Trump is considering sending an additional 10,000 troops to the region.
