According to CinemaDrame News Agency, director Shawn Levy has shared a new behind-the-scenes photo of Ryan Gosling and Flynn Grey on the set of Star Wars: Starfighter in the Mediterranean Sea. Posting on Instagram, Levy wrote: “Somewhere in the Mediterranean.”
The film, directed by Levy and written by Jonathan Tropper, is set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker (2019). The cast includes Matt Smith, Mia Pearl (Pearl), Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Flynn Grey, Daniel Ings, Simon Bird, and Jamael Westman.
Starfighter will be the second Star Wars feature released after The Rise of Skywalker, following next year’s The Mandalorian and Grogu. The Rise of Skywalker grossed $1.077 billion worldwide.
The newly released image has sparked speculation among Star Wars fans about which planet the story might explore. Since Levy tagged Sardinia, Italy, some theorize that the film’s setting could be Naboo’s oceans, as scenes for that planet were previously shot in Italy. Others suggest it might take place on Mon Cala, or even the water moon Trask, which appeared in an episode of The Mandalorian.
Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027.
