Emmys 2025: Cristin Milioti Wins for The Penguin

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Cristin Milioti won the Emmy Award for Best Lead Actress in a Limited Series on Sunday night for her role as Sofia Falcone in HBO’s The Penguin. It was both her first nomination and her first win in this category.

Visibly emotional on stage, Milioti said: “I’m sorry, I wrote this speech on the back of my therapy notes from a few days ago. Don’t look at the other side.”

She continued: “It is so difficult to comprehend being alive in the world right now, so I am grateful for the bright spots in life. Making this show with such an extraordinary group of people and getting to embody this woman was a bright spot for me. Despite all her darkness and violence, this role felt like flying.”

Addressing her family, Milioti added: “Thank you for supporting your weird kid and for showing me movies that were absolutely inappropriate for my age.” She then quickly thanked series writer Lauren LeFranc, saying: “Someone whose brain smoke I’d like to inhale.”

After hurriedly thanking a few more names, she closed her eyes and declared loudly: “I love all of you and I love acting!”

Milioti began her career in theater and won the 2012 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for Once on Broadway. She gained wider recognition playing Tracy McConnell, also known as “the Mother,” on How I Met Your Mother, and later appeared in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Black Mirror, and the film Palm Springs.

Other nominees in the Best Lead Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie category included Michelle Williams (Dying for Sex), Rashida Jones (Black Mirror), Meghann Fahy (Sirens), and Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer).

In total, The Penguin won nine Emmy Awards, though Colin Farrell did not take home the trophy for Best Lead Actor.
