Kirsten Dunst: I’d Do Minecraft 2 for a Lot of Money

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Kirsten Dunst says she would gladly star in the sequel Minecraft 2 if it came with a hefty paycheck. In a new interview with Town & Country, the 43-year-old actress asked: “Maybe I could be in a movie that doesn’t lose money?”
Dunst, whose career includes acclaimed films such as Melancholia, Marie Antoinette, The Power of the Dog, and Civil War, will appear this year in Roofman and next year in The Entertainment System Is Down.
The Oscar-nominated Spider-Man star told the magazine she would consider joining Minecraft 2, noting—according to Town & Country—that her kids loved the first film and that she’s also motivated by the chance to earn a substantial paycheck. “Maybe I could be in a movie that doesn’t lose money?” she added.
The first live-action Minecraft grossed $955 million worldwide, becoming the third highest-grossing film of the year, despite receiving largely negative reviews. Gen Z audiences, however, overlooked its flaws and propelled it to box office success.
Elsewhere in the interview, Dunst confirmed she will star in the next film by Sofia Coppola, following Priscilla. Coppola told the magazine about Dunst: “Kirsten makes such interesting choices. She’s never artificial. She can be totally sincere and in touch with her emotions without embarrassment. I love working with her and I know she understands me, and I’m glad she’s at this age… I feel like she’s entered her own Gena Rowlands era and can play really complex roles.”
Last year, Dunst told Marie Claire she’d be open to returning to the superhero genre: “Because I get paid a lot of money, and I have two kids and I support my mom.”
Roofman will be released on October 10.
