Aubrey Plaza breaks silence on husband’s death: “It’s a daily struggle”

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Aubrey Plaza has spoken for the first time about the suicide of her ex-husband Jeff Baena during an interview on Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler. Plaza and Poehler previously worked together on NBC’s Parks and Recreation.

The White Lotus actress told Poehler: “Right now, I’m just glad to be here with you. Overall, I feel like I’m alive and living, and I feel like I should be grateful for moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but you know—it’s a daily struggle.”

The 41-year-old actress compared the grief of losing her husband to the film The Gorge, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller: “In this film, there’s a cliff on one side and a cliff on the other, with a gorge between them filled with monsters trying to trap the two. When I watched it, I thought that’s what my grief felt like—or what grief can mean.”

She added: “There’s always this vast ocean of terror that I can see, and sometimes I want to go into it and live there. But sometimes I just look at it, and other times I try to stay away from it. But it’s always there. It’s always there, and the monsters are always trying to trap me—like Miles Teller.”

Baena and Plaza married in 2021 and separated in 2024. The two collaborated on Life After Beth (2014), The Little Hours (2017), and Spin Me Round (2022).
