Alan Cumming on Avengers: Doomsday: “I Didn’t Know Who I Was Acting Opposite”

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, 60-year-old Scottish actor Alan Cumming spoke in a new interview with Gold Derby about returning to the superhero genre in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday and winning an Emmy for hosting Peacock’s The Traitors. In the new Avengers film, Cumming reprises his role as Kurt Wagner, a.k.a. Nightcrawler, whom he last portrayed in X2: X-Men United. He is one of several actors from the Fox-era X-Men films to officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Cumming said: “I filmed the whole movie by myself. With green screens and a lot of face replacement. They even gave the characters fake names. Half the time, I didn’t know who I was acting opposite. [Laughs.]”
When asked if he would ever join a reality competition as a contestant after hosting The Traitors, he replied: “I think it would have to be one of those cake-baking or crafting shows… Once, I was asked to host The World’s Most Dangerous Roads. The idea was: ‘Alan will be driving on this dangerous road in India where 30 people died last week.’ That’s when I thought maybe I shouldn’t say yes.”
He also spoke about his dog: “On The Traitors, when he barks, you don’t hear his real bark—they’ve dubbed in another dog’s voice. He communicates in a kind of silent way.”
Previously announced cast members for Avengers: Doomsday include Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tenoch Huerta as Namor, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Letitia Wright as Shuri, and Winston Duke as M’Baku.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026 (27 Azar 1405).
