$115 Million Opening Predicted for Wicked: For Good

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Wicked: For Good, the sequel to the Oscar-winning film Wicked, is projected to earn $112–115 million in its opening week starting November 21, 2025.
The first film, directed by Jon M. Chu, grossed $112.5 million during last year’s Thanksgiving holiday, opening alongside Paramount’s Gladiator 2 and Disney’s Moana 2, collectively setting a historic $420 million record from Wednesday to Sunday. Disney’s Zootopia 2 will compete with Wicked: For Good in the final week of November, though its box office details have not yet been released.
Following early screenings for the media, reactions on social media have begun to appear. Scott Mentes of We Live Entertainment called Wicked: For Good a “masterpiece,” adding:
“[Ariana] Grande is undoubtedly Oscar-worthy for Best Supporting Actress.”
Another critic, Simon Thompson, praised the film as “magical” with a “joyful and deeply satisfying ending.”
Like its predecessor, Wicked: For Good primarily targets a female audience. Over 72% of the first film’s viewers were women, and 80% recommended it to others. The original 2-hour-40-minute film earned an A CinemaScore. The new sequel is slightly shorter, running 2 hours and 18 minutes. Wicked still holds records for the highest-grossing opening and total revenue among Broadway musical adaptations. The first film ultimately earned $473.2 million in North America and $756.4 million worldwide.
No high-budget films are scheduled for release the weekend before Thanksgiving this year. Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 opened to $55 million and went on to gross $462.1 million worldwide.
Other upcoming releases from November 14–16, 2025 include Running Man, attracting more male viewers, and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. The third Now You See Me installment appeals to all age groups but will prioritize female audiences.
Sony will release Sisu: Road to Revenge, targeting war-genre fans, opposite Wicked: For Good. The first Sisu was a low-budget film that earned $7.3 million, and the sequel is expected to double that figure.
